It's My Birthday

Okay, it is my birthday, actually the true day was yesterday, but I am celebrating today! I am turning 30, but I like to think of it as half way to 60. Age doesn't really bother me and truly I don't feel any different then I did 10 years ago. If anything has changed, it is that I am wiser and have a lot more experiences. I look at a birthday as a new start to another great year!

Well, this is my Birthday outfit. I am still really trying to play with this skirt and trying to find the perfect top to wear with it. I was hoping to find some tops while I was away, but didn’t have much luck. I decided that I was going to go through my closet and try everything I could with it and see if I could find something. This is the first look that I liked and it gave me a better understanding of what kind of tops I should be looking for. I don’t normally mix black and navy, but why not break the rules. I wanted to break up the tones, because they are so close together, so I added a brown braided belt. I am really happy with the overall look. I paired it with rose pattern tights, black pumps and finished it off with a black purse and sunglasses. I think I am finally progressing with this skirt and figuring out what is going to work with it and my body. Hi hope you like my look today and I have inspired you. ~Joey

Las Vegas

Here is one of the outfits I wore while we were in Vegas. It was a lot colder then I expected upon arrival and most days I bundled up with a jacket and a scarf. This is a casual look for me and sometimes a look that I really like. I fell like some days I am all over the place for fashion, but in the end I wear what I feel and this is what I felt for this day. I couple of the items I am wearing I have had for a few years now, the leather coat, boots and the jeans are going on 3 years now. The items are a bit more expensive, but as you can tell they have lasted a while, so to me they are worth the money. Sometimes I will splurge on items that I know will be in my closet for a while! One item I have a hard time spending money on is sunglasses. I had eye surgery about 6 months ago and I had to purchase a good pair of sunglasses. The reason I never spend a lot of money on  sunglasses is because I always end up losing them or breaking them, but this time I had no choice. I went out in search of the perfect pair and if I was going to spend the money on them I wanted to love them. I did find the perfect pair and did spend a bit more money then I wanted to. I am sure you are wondering why I am telling you this, well I finally ended up losing them while in Vancouver. I was so upset , because I had set them down while looking at an item in the store and noticed within a few minutes that I left them there.  I back tracked all my steps and someone had already lifted them. I knew that I hadn't gone far and that I did it a particular spot, so I felt that I was getting them back. I was upset that somebody would steal them and not handed them in. I know that if I ever come across an item that someone has left behind, I am definitely going to hand them in, in hopes that the person would come back. It kind of ruined my day and from that moment on I decided I was never going to spend a lot of money on sunglasses again. the next day I was in search for a new pair, but this time I spent my max $50.00. I got them on sale and I am happy with the style and look.

I just purchased this stripe top while in Vancouver and has become one of my favorites! I layered it with my leather coat and finished it off with boots, a gray purse and sunglasses. I hope you like my look today and that I have inspired you!

Style Icon!!

Today I was completely honored to be recognized as a candidate for style icon on Chictopia.com. I haven't been blogging that much the last couple of weeks, because of traveling and work. To be honest this week, I locked myself in my office and spent the last 7 days working until midnight and trying to catch up. I am heading off to Vegas shortly and hopefully will have time to get some great pictures to show off some new looks. Thanks everyone for their support, reading my bloggs and following me on Chictopia. I hope I can continue to inspire people with my fashion.

Here is an image of me at the Olympics supporting my country, Go Canada Go! It was an amzing experience and I felt so proud to have been a part of it. Canada rocked and I am so proud to be Canadian!

Adore

I absolutely adore this little dress and all the small details. It is simply, but very cute. There is some small stitched yellow, cream and red flowers and then little flowered buttons that really add character to the dress. This dress have a great vintage feel to it and is casual and comfortable. I bought this dress last summer and I have only worn it once, I felt it was a little to long and I was wanting to get it hemmed. I actually didn't expect for it to be as short as it, but I don't mind. I am usually self conscience of my legs and like to have the dress hit just above the knee, but this obviously was not the case. Note to self, get a friend or your significant other to help you pin it to the length you want. I obviously didn't pin it right and cut way to much off, but atleast I didn't cut to much off that I can't wear. Lesson learned!!

This is another one of those versatile dresses that can worn for multiple occasions and during all seasons. It can be dressed up in so many different ways and layering can be added for extra warmth. The little flowers are cream, yellow and red, so I paired this dress with a pair of yellow tights and my pumps. I really like this look and glad I finally got the dress fixed and hemmed. I hope you like this look today and remember to get someone to help you when trying to pin a garment for hemming ;-) ~Joey

Casual Day

We all have days that we just don't want to wear a dress or skirt, but that doesn't mean we can't still look feminine and cute. That is the greatest thing about jeans! There are so many styles out there,  from bootcut to flare to skinny and wide legged. We all need to find a good pair of jeans that fits are bodies perfect. I have a classic look, so I tend to go with more classic style jeans. I have worn all types and I feel the most comfortable in a dark washed, wide legged jeans. I feel they fit me the best and are the most flattering on my body. It is better to have one really good pair of jeans in your closet then 50 okay pairs. You really have to shop around and try different styles on and you don't always have to spend a lot of money. I have bought expensive jeans before, so I was surprised by the price of these jeans. Not only did they fit perfect the price was ridiculously low. If you do find the perfect pair of jeans, don't be afraid to by a couple pair of the same brand and sometimes you can even get them in different washes. I do this a lot, when I find an item that is perfect for me and I know I might wear it a lot, I will by doubles! It sucks when your favorite jeans get worn out and they don't sell that style anymore. So, make sure you try and find the perfect pair of jeans for your body. You don't always have to go with the what is in style at that moment, because sometimes that style just doesn't work for everyone.

Jeans can be a casual look, but we can always pair them with items to dress them up. I think my look is casual, but because I am very feminine I tend to add items that dress the jeans up a bit. You can change the look of a pair of jeans by what you add. You can wear a t-shirt to dress it down or pair it with a cute blouse, heels and blazer to dress it up. Jeans can be a lot of fun to play with and don't always have to be worn with t-shirts and runners. I darker wash jean tends to look a little dressier then a light wash. A jean can also show off your personality as well, so when you are out there looking for a pair of jeans try and keep these little tricks in mind, but don't forget to get the pair of jeans that flatters you the best, that is the most important thing.

I paired these jeans with a purple blouse and topped it off with and adorable jacket. Basically the whole outfit was based around the jacket. I bought this Jacket last year while on vacation and it is such a cute casual coat. I love how there is a small puffy sleeve, which makes it a little bit more feminine. this jacket is very versatile and goes with so many things. The color is neutral, so it can be paired with a lot of different colors. It is also a great coat to pair with dresses for the summer.I finished the look off with camel colored pumps and purse.  I hope I have inspired you to find that perfect pair of jeans and try dressing them up on dressing them down. ~Joey

New Hair-Inspired

I was really inspired by the actress Zooey Deschanel who starred in the movie 500 Days of Summer. I absolutely loved this movie and the fashion was perfect and just what I like. Everything about her was perfect. I really loved her hair from this movie and I was going to the hairdresser, so I thought why not try it out. I did a lot of research before hand and found as many pictures I could. I tried to find the cut at different angles, so the hairdresser could get it just right. I didn't change the color, because I wanted to keep the color I had, I have experimented with all types of colors and I found that a medium blonde suited my best, but who knows it could change, I tend to do that. I do wish my hair was a bit longer, but I can't do anything to make it grow fast, so I will just have to be patient. I really like the hair cut and it is a nice change. It is funny how much more I look like my mom. I am sure I could find a picture of her at my age and you would think we were twins. I hope you like the new look!

My Inspiration:

My outfit today was kept fairly simple. I like simple :-) Less is more right? I think sometimes we forget about that and tend to over do it. Sometimes when I am putting together outfits I start with a look and then add and add and then eventually take away until I feel it is right. My look is definitely not edgy or crazy and I get a lot of comments that my look is simple and classic, so I guess that is how you would best describe it. My look is Vintage, Feminine Classic!

I am really into skirts and I bought this from Modcloth and received it today. There where great reviews, so I though I would give it a try (I love polka dots) and I was very pleased with my purchase. I feel that the older I get the little more conservative I get. I am going to be 30 in about a month and it really affects my views on what I think I should be wearing. I love the short skirts and I do have a few dresses that are shorter, but I find the longer skirts are just as cute. I never used to wear skirts this long, but I am really starting to like them. They have a great vintage feel to them yet they are still sexy!! I feel more comfortable in them as well. I have self conscience of my thighs and knees, so I don't really like showing them off. I am sure most people would think I was crazy to feel this way, but it is true and we all have insecurities and this is one of mine. It takes a lot for me to wear shorter skirts or dresses and most of the time I am uncomfortable, so I think I will go more towards a longer skirt that hits at the knee. It did keep it fairly simple so I paired it with cream tights, cardigan and black pumps. I chose to go with the black and white look today!! I decide to add a bit of color and that was with my lips, a bit of red to spice things up.

I am always look for inspiration and I love it when I find it! I was truly inspired by this movie and Zooey Deschanel's look. I am really going for the vintage , feminine classic look and I think she really demonstrated it well in this movie. I think we should all follow are hearts and dress the way we want to do and thanks to today's' society we can do this. Always look for inspiration and don't be afraid to be who you are. Hope you like my new hair and I have inspired you!! ~Joey

Floral Prints

A new trend for this spring is Bold, Floral Prints. There are so many wonderful prints out there, so get out there and buy skirts and dresses for spring with floral prints. Floral prints have emerged even bigger, brighter and bolder and we are going to see it everywhere, so don't forget those shoes, bags, belts and shirts. My outfit today was inspired by this trend, but because we still have snow I worked it for the winter. I still try and give my style a vintage feel, but incorporate modern pieces.  I am so happy to see floral coming back!!

I am so ready for spring and ready to get rid of the snow. I decided that maybe if a floral pattern would help or at least help my mind. I love this floral pattern, it is so pretty and the colors are so vibrant. As you all know bold floral prints are a hot trend for spring. That is one great thing about this little dress, it can be dressed for winter, but will be lovely for spring. This is actually a dress and I topped it with a black cardigan and wide belt. I am in love with lace tights, so I paired it with a black pair and finished it off with my favorite pumps. Because it is winter and I need to cover up this beautiful floral, so I wore and great winter coat I purchased at MEXX. I love this wool coat and the look of it. It has a wide belt, which I can cinch in to accentuate my waist. This is a must have piece for anyone’s closet. You can never go wrong with a winter, wool coat. I was feeling the winter blues and wanted to brighten my day up, so that is why I chose this bright, bold floral print. I know it wont be to much longer until the snow is goes away, but it can’t be soon enough. I hope you like my outfit today and are inspired to try out some Bold Floral Prints!

I always get those winter blues, so I try and make changes in my wardrobe to brighten things up or change something about myself and what better way to do that then change your hair.  I am so excited because tomorrow I am heading out for a haircut and color. I think I will stay within the same color scheme I have going, but I think I will make a big change with the cut. The length will be the same ( I really trying to grow it, it seems to be stuck in this one length), but I need to add some flare, so look out for tomorrows pic, because I will have new hair.

1940's Classic

The 1940's look is such a classic look and I don't think will ever go out of style. I love this Era and the style of clothing the woman were wearing. The clothing was always very flattering to a woman's shape, yet very sexy. It focused on the woman's waist and created an hour glass figure, which is very flattering and sexy. This style works best for me, because I do have hips!! I always feel so confident when I wear a dress that hugs me in all the right places. The dress I am wearing is a "Stop Staring Dress" (http://www.stopstaringclothing.com/) in red. I absolutely love the style and the dress. The color is so vibrant and the shape works in every way. It is amazing when you put these dresses on, you feel so sexy yet you are completely cover. This goes to show that you don't always have to wear the skimpiest outfit to feel sexy.

The 1940's included a lot of styles like this and started to introduce a more casual approach. The hemlines usually touched just below the knee. The dresses  were fitted and it was important to accentuate the waist to create the hour glass figure. Blouses became fuller and skirts became slimmer. I also like to wear a lot of high waisted skirts!! The style really started to develop after the 1930's and that included hair and accessories. Hair was bigger and fuller and waves started contouring the face. I still haven't mastered pin curls and waves, but I think I have a style that is close and is easy to do. They usually finished off their hair styles with a small hat, which usually included some sort of netting. Other accessories that started to come into the 1940's were high heels, gloves, bangles, earrings, pins and purses with Bakelite. Everything about this Era is wonderful!!

Today I wore a red Stop Staring Vintage inspired dress with Black tights, pumps and finished it off with black gloves, gold accessories and a faux fur wrap. I hope you like my vintage inspired dress and learned a little bit about the 1940's fashion Era!! ~Joey

Multiple Uses

I think sometimes we forget that items in our closets can be used in different ways, I know that I forget. My outfit today is the perfect example. It is a short dress that has a small fabric belt. I have worn this before with jeans and boots and as is with tights and shoes. I really love this dress, especially the top. I am not sure what got me thinking about this last night, but I was going through items in my closet and remembered that just because it is a dress, doesn't mean I can't use it for something else.  I think sometimes when we buy stuff and we label it and forget that it can used in many different ways. We need to think outside of the box sometimes and experiment with our wardrobe. This is what I did today and I happy with how it turned out. The fit of the dress is fairly straight and the material is light weight, so it fit perfect under the skirt. I am really glad I tried this out, it is one of my favorite outfits! I love wearing high waisted skirts and this blouse/dress is a perfect compliment to it.

I am really happy this outfit worked outfit for me today. I usually try and think about what I am going to wear the night before and this is what I came up with in my head :-). I love this little dress and the colors are so pretty. The small detail with the buttons is my favorite part. I decided to try it out with the skirt and have it as the blouse and it works. I paired it with purple tights, my black high waisted skirt and pumps (I loooove these shoes). I wore my BB Dakota jacket and finished it off with a vintage purse. I hope you get inspired to look at your clothes and think outside the box, just because it says it is dress doesn't always mean it has to be. Hope you enjoy my look today.~ Joey

Statement

I think everyone needs a few statement pieces in their closet whether it is casual or dressy. This can easily be done with color. I have always wanted a red jacket and I finally got one! I purchased this coat from ModCloth (BBDakota) and I am soooo happy with it. There were a few negative comments about the coat, but I knew the brand was good and it looked so cute, so I thought I would try it out and I was completely happy with my purchase. This is the second coat that I have purchased of this brand and I am always happy with the quality and fit of their pieces.

This is my statement piece for the day and I do love red. Red is one of my favorite colors and I am so happy I finally purchased a red coat. It is such a versatile coat that can be worn all year around. I know I will be wearing this a lot. I am sometime a little crazy, because I do live in Canada and it is cold this time a year, but sometimes I just don't care and wear clothes that I want to wear. This jacket for instance, I am sure most people wouldn't dare to walk out in the cold in this, but I did. If I was going out tobogganing or skiing of course I wouldn't wear it, but if my time outside includes getting in and out of the car, walking short distance in places then I figure why not. I had to run a few errands and take husband lunch, so the actually time I spent outside was only 5 min. I wear what I want and I try not to let weather discourage me from wearing something that I want. If you do have to spend time outside, then layers, lots of layers!

I paired my jacket with my wide leg jeans and a red pump. Undeneathe the coat I am wearing a white light weight sweater with camisole, finally I accessorized with some antique hoops. I am really happy with this coat and I absolutely love the color. I hope I have inspired you today with my look. ~Joey

I Feel More Like Me

Yesterday I tried something totally different and in the end I just didn't feel like myself and the outfit I wore just wasn't me. I really liked the outfit and hope that I inspired some people, but as for me I think I will retire the look and let someone else have it ;-) Today I am feeling more like myself and I am a lot happier with the outfit I wore. I feel like the outfits we choose to wear represent us and give people a little insight about who we are and I think this look definitely shows who I am.

I really do love black and have always been a fan of it, but recently I have wanted to introduce color into my wardrobe and I feel like I can do both. I still wear a lot of black, but I try and add a vibrant punch of color into each look. sometimes it is just a purse or maybe shoes, but this time it was the belt! I purchased this belt yesterday and a local shop, but did notice that it could be bought at modcloth.com and in a few more colors. I was drawn to it instantly and had to have it! I thought it would be the perfect addition to my wardrobe and as I was purchasing the item,  I had outfit after outfit running through mind that I could use this belt for. This was the first outfit that came to mind. I have a full skirt with a crinoline and added a simple, basic black cardigan. I finished it off with the pink rose belt, polka dot tights (I love polka dots)  and my black pumps. The belt is the featured item of this outfit and it pops off the black. The black skirt and dress was the canvas to the wonderful piece of art (the belt).

This outfit really makes me feel feminine and beautiful! My husband always chuckles at me when he walks in the door at lunch. I always ask him what he thinks of my outfit and I really enjoy his responses. Yesterday I think he thought my outfit was neat and today I was cute. To be honest I am lucky to have him, because he is honest and he does tell me if something looks off or doesn't flatter me. I would rather him give me the honest truth! I hope you like my outfit today and I inspire you!! ~Joey

First Blogg

I didn't ever think I would actually be doing this, but I am. I always said I would never be a blogger, but I thought I would try it out. I have had a lot of requests to start a blog, so why not. This is my first blog and probably won't be very exciting, but I will try and make it as interesting as possible. Most of my blogs will display my thoughts and images on fashion, my fashion.

I would say that my style is a modern 40's-50's look. I try to incorporate vintage pieces with modern items. I am in love with that Era and how woman dressed and styled themselves. I look back to them as inspiration and I hope that I can inspire some of you. I love wearing dresses and recently skirts!! I have always tried to figure out what best suited my body and I feel like the style I have adopted works. I am about 5'4" (5'9" with heels) and I have a petite upper body with hips! Yes that's right, hips! I have never been fond of my hips, but recently I have come to terms with them and figured that they weren't going to go away, so I might as well use them. I try to choose outfits that flatter and accentuate them!I love wearing pencil skirts and A-line cuts. I am focused on feeling pretty and trying to look the best that I can on a daily basis! I feel lucky to be a woman and we as woman should embrace it. We have so many options, tools and amazing opportunities to show who we are. Fashion gives us this opportunity, so I am going to use it to my full advantage. I love being a woman!

I hope I inspire you with my blogg and fashion sense! ~Joey
